Explorer++ is intended to be an improved file explorer. Luckily, the developers did not confuse the word “improve” with “difficult” as it sometimes happens. The interface was designed not to pose too many learning challenges to the user; it looks quite the same as Windows Explorer. However, it has been added tabs, a feature that appears to become increasingly popular among designers and users. This way, you will be able to browse various drive locations in different tabs with no need to open several windows. This simple modification would have been enough for this program to earn the first “+” in its name.
A handy set of additional features may very well account for the other “+”. First, this program may be run in portable mode, which means you can use it from an external drive without installing it. Second, it will allow you to split or merge files with a menu command. Third, you can also protect your privacy by using the destroy command; which works as a shredder. Fourth, you will have the capability to use a powerful search that includes file attributes. Fifth, it will also allow you to use wildcards to select files instead of manual selection, which will save you some time. Sixth, you can customize colors so that different types of file can be identified by the corresponding color. Finally, it does not replace Windows Explorer without your consent, but you can still use Explorer++ as your default file browser by setting the option.
This program could have just an additional “+” if it just exploited better the capabilities of the secondary click. In fact, it does not have a context menu of its own; it uses the same as Windows Explorer instead.
